In all areas of our curriculum and through our extra-curricular provision, we encourage and develop the values of friendship, respect and excellence and also inspiration, courage, equality and determination through effort and regular participation in healthy activities.

In PE and sport we offer students the opportunity to experience a broad range of activities. Students have timetabled lessons from Year 7 through to Year 11, with two lessons per week through both Key Stage 3 and 4. We offer GCSE PE (Edexcel) and Cambridge Technical Level 3 Sport and Physical Activity (OCR) through the school’s option system. Our curriculum is enhanced by staff, occasionally supported by senior sports leaders, staff from other departments and external coaches, who offer a range of extra-curricular clubs, activities and teams throughout the year.

Key Stage 3

All Key Stage 3 students receive two timetabled PE lessons per week. Students will cover a range of activities, including; Football, Netball, Basketball, Lacrosse, Rugby, Handball, Hockey, Gymnastics, Dance, Athletics, Cricket, Tennis and Rounders.

Key Stage 4

All Key Stage 4 students continue to receive two timetabled, core PE lessons per week, where we look to extend the experiences gained lower down the school. We offer a range of traditional activities as well as the opportunity to experience activities such as Boxercise, Zumba, badminton, yoga, aerobics and softball. As well as providing opportunities for students to lead and assist with the hosting and running of sports festivals for our feeder primary schools.

GCSE (Edexcel)

We currently offer a popular full course GCSE PE option, following the Edexcel syllabus. This is assessed in two exams at the end of the second year. The two exams equate to 60% of the overall grade. Students are assessed in three activities, one of which must be an individual sport and one must be a team sport. As part of their controlled assessment (10%), students are assessed through a written personal exercise programme, related to one of their three sports. We are visited by an external moderator every summer term.

Key Stage 5

Cambridge Technical Level 3 Sport and Physical Activity (OCR)

We offer the OCR Cambridge Technical Level 3 Sport and Physical Activity at Key Stage 5.

This includes three exams and five  units of coursework.

Aimed at students who prefer to study Sport and Physical Activity in a context that allows them to learn and be assessed in ways that are practical and relevant to the sport industry.

PE is a subject that opens doors to a number of careers and life options, which may include; physiotherapy, teaching, sports science, sports management, sports coaching, personal trainer, dietician, etc

Extra-Curricular Activities

We offer a wide range of activities throughout the year.  We actively encourage and welcome all students to attend these clubs and practices. The majority of our clubs happen during our lunch times and some after school. Our “sport for all” policy means that any student showing a consistent and resilient approach to extra-curricular sport will be given an opportunity to represent the school. The Chiltern District of schools has a very active intra-school programme. We field teams in sports such as football (boys and girls), netball, rugby union, basketball, handball, gymnastics, athletics, cricket, tennis, rounders, softball and badminton.
